Pinnacle Podcasts:
Funding, devolved authority, and tenant engagement are key to successful service delivery
2 May 2008
“Accelerating tenant engagement in service delivery is dependent on central government giving more devolved authority for local government to experiment with”, says Barry Simons, a Pinnacle non-executive director and former director of Housing Services at the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, in Pinnacle’s latest podcast, launched today.
In this podcast, Barry argues that previous governments have stymied local government by not giving them the ability to innovate and that local government must change from its current model of delivering individual services, to one that’s delivering services to the whole community as a whole. He argues that residents should be involved in the commissioning of services, which means they should shape those services and choose who should provide them.
Barbara Brownlee, Pinnacle’s Director of Consulting, is also featured on this podcast, discussing the real value of tenant and resident involvement in designing and overseeing the delivery of services, and citing examples from her own experiences working with local authorities and communities across the UK.
This podcast is part of a series in which leading experts within the organisation discuss various topical issues within the housing, regeneration, maintenance and public sectors.
