2007 Budget: realistic expectations of public sector efficiency growth?

“The Chancellor’s 11th budget was full of the good news that was expected, with the range of economic indicators providing a supportive context to his likely start as Premier.

However, he has been modest in his expectations of public sector efficiency growth, with most public service companies believing they could deliver higher quality services for less than the current cost. It will be interesting to see whether local councils will be prepared to embrace their new role under Lyons as place-shapers and accelerate their shedding of their historic attachment to directly-employed staff.”
