Real measures for local government to improve their responses to the threat of global warming

As the world’s superpowers stall talks on climate change in Bali today, the release of the LGA Climate Change Commission’s final report, A Climate of Change, last week looks set to ensure that, for UK local government at least, real measures will be put in place to improve local responses to the threat of global warming.

Its finding that councils can help cut carbon emissions by 150 million tonnes of C02 a year, contributing up to 32% of the national target reductions that central government has pledged to achieve by 2020, should now spur councils on to play their rightful role in the drive towards averting climate change.

Local government now needs to put the correct systems and facilities in place to make these achievable reductions a reality.  The wider community, including third sector organisations, private companies and the public, must also unite behind this common goal.

Pinnacle, as a leading provider of community management solutions to public sector organisations throughout the UK, will be taking the recommendations highlighted within this report very seriously and modifying its service delivery where needed to ensure that reducing carbon emissions remains a key priority.

As the nation enters a new era of ever more local services, with greater emphasis on local engagement, decision-making and priority setting, it’s vitally important that the climate change agenda is given the utmost priority.  As an organisation working with the wider community, we are committed to playing our role in making a sustainable difference.
