Are people from ethnic minorities being encouraged enough to join our industry? There is a major absence of ethnic minorities around the regeneration and property industries and it's because these industries haven't been as proactive as, say, the public sector has been, in recruiting them. We could do much more to involve people from these communities to make the careers more attractive. If we look at the number of people from black and ethnic minorities (BME) who are getting into, for example, private property markets at a local level, it's clear that the talent's there. But that talent doesn't transfer itself into more institutional areas. |
