What we think of the Hills' report into social housingWe welcome the Hills report, which I’m certain will raise the level of debate about social housing beyond either simply building more homes or whether the Right To Buy should be extended. It’s clear that the government is preparing to view social housing as only part of the solution needed to provide affordable homes near to centres of economic activity. And that its form may need to be changed to effectively tackle the current issues of social and economic exclusion, unemployment and benefits-dependency: primary issues that have largely been missed out of the debate so far. The communities in which Pinnacle works aren’t passive recipients of public support, they are ambitious for themselves and their families. Our experience as community managers shows that they need the support, guidance and practical help to improve their lives which we endeavour to provide. |
